General Surgery Procedures at Medcy Hospitals

At Medcy Hospitals, we offer a comprehensive range of surgical procedures, including:

Core Surgical Procedures

  • Hernia Repair: A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue protrudes through a weak area of muscle. We perform two types of hernia repair:
  • Open Surgery: The surgeon makes a single incision to push the hernia back into place and closes the weakened muscle with stitches.
  • Laparoscopic Surgery: A minimally invasive approach where small incisions are used to insert a laparoscope and surgical tools. The hernia is repaired with the use of surgical mesh.
  • Appendectomy: The surgical removal of an inflamed appendix, performed as an emergency procedure to prevent it from rupturing. This can be done as an open appendectomy with a larger incision or a laparoscopic appendectomy with small incisions for a less invasive approach.
  • Thyroid Removal (Thyroidectomy): This procedure removes all or part of the thyroid gland to treat thyroid nodules, goiter, or thyroid cancer. It can be performed through an incision in the neck or using a scarless approach through the mouth.

Colorectal & Gastrointestinal Procedures

  • Colon and Rectal Surgery: Procedures to diagnose and treat conditions of the lower digestive tract, including the colon, rectum, and anus. They are typically recommended for conditions such as hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, and cancer.
  • Fistula Surgery: A surgical procedure to repair a fistula, an abnormal connection between two organs. The approach is tailored based on the location of the fistula, such as in the anal/perianal area, gastrointestinal tract, or urinary tract.

Specialized Procedures

  • Varicose Vein Removal: Varicose vein stripping and ligation surgery is a procedure to remove enlarged, damaged veins. The affected vein is tied off and removed through two small incisions. This does not affect blood flow, as deeper veins take over its function.
  • Nephrolithotripsy (Kidney Stones Removal): Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy is a procedure to remove large kidney stones. A small incision in the back allows the surgeon to insert a specialized scope to break up the stone with high-frequency sound waves and remove the fragments.

Advanced Surgical Techniques

  • Laparoscopic Surgery: Also known as “keyhole surgery,” this is a minimally invasive surgical technique that uses small incisions to insert a laparoscope, a flexible tube with a camera and light into the body. Compared to traditional open surgery, it is less painful, requires a shorter recovery time, and results in minimal scarring.
