Different OB-GYN Services at Medcy Hospitals

Explore the various obstetrics & gynaecology services available at Medcy.

Obstetric Services

  • Vaginal Childbirth: The most common and generally safest method of childbirth, where the baby is delivered through the mother’s vagina.
  • Caesarean Section (C-Section): A surgical method of delivery where an incision is made in the mother’s abdomen and uterus. A C-section is an alternative when a vaginal delivery is not feasible.

Gynaecological Conditions & Treatments

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A metabolic disorder where the ovaries produce excessive androgen, leading to irregular menstrual cycles and the formation of numerous cysts. Patients with PCOS are also prone to other health issues, such as diabetes and heart disease.
  • Endometriosis: A condition where the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing severe pelvic pain and fertility issues. Treatment involves medication, hormone therapy, and surgeries like laparoscopy or hysterectomy.
  • Uterine Fibroids: These are abnormal, non-cancerous growths of tissue inside the uterine wall. While some patients have no symptoms, common signs include heavy bleeding, pain, and irregular periods. Treatment depends on the size and symptoms and can include medication or surgery.
  • Asherman’s Syndrome: A rare disorder where scar tissue builds up inside the uterus, causing pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, and fertility issues.
  • Ovarian Cysts: These are fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries. While many resolve on their own, a surgical procedure called an ovarian cystectomy may be necessary if a cyst is too large, ruptures, or blocks blood supply to the ovary.
  • Hysterectomy: A surgical procedure that removes the uterus, and sometimes the cervix, to treat conditions such as uterine fibroids, cancer, endometriosis, and uterine prolapse.
  • Myomectomy: A surgical procedure that removes uterine fibroids while preserving the uterus. This procedure is an alternative to a complete hysterectomy for women who wish to retain their uterus.
  • Oophorectomy: A surgical procedure that removes one or both of the ovaries to treat conditions such as large ovarian cysts, chronic pelvic pain, or benign tumors.
  • Dilation and Curettage (D&C): A surgical procedure where the cervix is dilated to allow a curette to be used to scrape and remove abnormal tissues from the uterine lining.
  • Cervical Biopsy: This procedure obtains tissue samples from the cervix to test for precancerous conditions, tissue abnormalities, or cancer.
  • Microdochectomy: A surgical procedure that removes a single milk duct from the breast. It is a common treatment for a continuous nipple discharge.

Family Planning & Contraception

  • Intrauterine Device (IUD) Placement: An IUD is a T-shaped birth control device placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy. It can also help regulate heavy bleeding and menstrual pain.
  • Contraceptive Implant: A small, flexible plastic rod inserted under the skin of the upper arm. It releases a steady dose of hormones to prevent pregnancy for several years.
  • Tubal Ligation: A surgical procedure that serves as a permanent form of birth control by blocking the fallopian tubes to prevent sperm from fertilizing the eggs.
  • Tubal Ligation Reversal: A surgical procedure that reopens or reconnects fallopian tubes that have undergone a tubal ligation, allowing for the possibility of pregnancy.
