Hepatology

Hepatology specialises in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of conditions related to the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and biliary tract. The primary focus of a hepatologist is on the liver. Various conditions can affect the liver, such as fatty liver disease, jaundice, hepatitis infections, and more. Other hepatic system disorders include gallstones, pancreatitis, bile duct cancer, and so on.

Poor functioning of the hepatic system, especially the liver, can invite a host of problems that can significantly reduce your quality of life. That is why Medcy Hospitals has a team of skilled hepatologists on standby to safeguard the health of your liver and help you live a long and healthy life.

Types of Hepatology Treatments at Medcy Hospitals

We offer a range of hepatology treatments that combine precision and expertise to deliver quick, long-term results.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a treatment for varicose veins, where the veins, usually in the legs, become enlarged and twisted. In Sclerotherapy, a needle injects a special solution into the vein that irritates the blood vessel linings, causing them to stick together and scar. It eventually closes off the vein, improving its appearance and texture and forcing the blood through other healthier veins. Sclerotherapy also works for spider veins.

ND: YAG Laser

ND: YAG laser treatment is a non-surgical approach used to address various conditions affecting the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts. The treatment is also sometimes recommended for varicose veins and spider veins. Lasers are also used for other treatments, including eliminating skin cancer, correcting posterior capsular opacification, facial veins, and so on.

Hepatitis C Treatment

Hepatitis C is a virus that spreads through contaminated blood. It causes a serious liver infection where the liver gets chronically inflamed and swollen, damaging the liver tissues in the long run. Treatment of Hepatitis C includes medication and, for advanced cases, a liver transplant.

Hepatitis B Treatment

Hepatitis B is a virus that causes liver inflammation. Hepatitis B is one of the five infections that can affect the liver. Hepatitis B can start as an acute short-term infection but, for some people, may turn into a chronic infection, potentially life-threatening.

The treatment for Hepatitis B in children includes vaccination and the Hepatitis B immune globulin. For adults, acute Hepatitis B will require treatment only for severe symptoms. Chronic Hepatitis B demands regular surveillance of the liver, medications, lifestyle changes and, for serious complications, surgery.

Whipple Operation

Pancreaticoduodenectomy, more commonly known as a Whipple Operation, is a complicated surgery that involves removing the head of the pancreas, the bile duct, the gallbladder and the first section of the small intestine.

The procedure treats pancreas, intestine, and bile duct disorders. It is usually suggested for treating cancer in the head of the pancreas. After the procedure, organs are reconnected for normal digestion.

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

The ERCP procedure uses upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and X-rays to treat bile, pancreatic ducts, liver, and gallbladder conditions. It can diagnose cancer of these organs, bile duct blockages, infections, tumours, fluid leakages, and more.
